On the Jan. 22 episode, we talked a lot about cooking using my favorite ingredient, beer.  As promised, here are some recipes and resources you can use to make great food with beer.
Super bowl brats – My own version of beer-boiled brats.  Pretty tasty, if I do say so myself.
Guinness Chocolate Cake – This recipe actually came from Nigella Lawson’s book Feast, but I have tested this recipe and it will make your head spin, it’s so good.
Beer Can Chicken – Classic in its simplicity.  Stand chicken up over beer can, cook.  Done.  You can even do it in your oven, if you have enough clearance.
Thirsty Pilgrim’s Beer-and-Cheese Soup – My brother, Joe, gave me this recipe.  You should try it.  It makes an excellent cheddar ale soup, and make sure to pair it with the beer with which it’s made.  You can read Joe’s excellent beer blog at http://thirstypilgrim.com.
Beef and Guinness Stew –  This is simple enough, you basically make whatever beef stew you would normally make and sub in some Guinness (or Tallgrass’s Buffalo Sweat is another good option) in for water.
For more cooking with beer recipes, you can check out Beercook.com.  To see what it looks like when you take this idea and run, you should check out the ever-amazing Sean Paxton’s website, The Homebrew Chef.  The concept is that not only can you build a recipe around a beer, but, as a homebrewer, you can also build a beer specifically for a recipe so they work more perfectly together.  Try that, wine geeks.

Elmore, the former frontman of Berch, is originally from Willow Springs, but recently transplanted to Los Angeles. The Colin Elmore Band played together for the first time minutes before this episode of SGF Local Live and absolutely killed it. Incredible performance.
