Kary Booher

I Tweeted this, but never put it on the site, so I’ll try to repeat myself:

The Ozarks, and baseball fans in general, are better off because of Kary Booher return to the Springfield Cardinals beat at the Springfield News-Leader.

Booher covered the SGF Cards for the franchise’s first four seasons before taking a job at Baseball America, where he was involved with many projects. And now, he’s back where he belongs, educating us on the ins and outs of the Cardinals’ Double-A affiliate.

With the SGF Cards opening their season tonight in Frisco, I thought it would be a great opportunity to catch up with Booher to lay out this season’s storylines and pick his brain about a few other things. KSPR 33 sports director Whitney Scott

We are in the middle of a Lady Bears resurgence and I figured it was more than overdue to catch up with one of the foremost experts on the Missouri State women’s basketball squad, KSPR 33 sports director Whitney Scott.

A Lockwood native, Scott has been KSPR’s sports director since August of 2007 and also does color commentary for Mediacom’s Lady Bears broadcasts. (And, she was on ESPN’s Dream Job. Don’t you remember that?)

As the Missouri State men’s basketball team heads into a must-win game Saturday at Indiana State, I thought it was a great time to bring in someone who can help us break down the Bears’ season thus far.

That’s why we have long-time Springfield News-Leader MSU beat writer Lyndal Scranton back to the TAGsgf.com sports podcast. Lyndal and Allen Vaughan discuss what it would mean to miss the play-in game, Adam Leonard’s breakout season and why the BracketBuster helped the Bears.

Mike Brothers

With today’s big (dare we say, must-win) home game with Creighton, I felt it was time to take the temperature of Missouri State men’s basketball fans. Thus, it’s time to introduce TagSGF.com friend Mike Brothers to the readership and listenership.

If you’re not familiar with Brothers, he’s currently a part of the City of Springfield’s communication department, but is a former reporter with the Springfield News-Leader. Brothers used to cover the music scene, as well as other Life and Times-related topics.

But, first and foremost, Brothers is the most loyal MSU men’s basketball fans I’ve seen. While he is an MSU alum and certainly doesn’t speak for all MSU fans, his observations are a refreshing mix of rational and laidback. He doesn’t claim to be a huge Xs and Os guy, but I’ve found his reasoning to be valuable over the years, whether it’s college basketball, new music or video games. Need even more credibility? I caught up with Brothers at Boomers Campus Sports Bar and Grill (also the location of our Super Bowl watch party!) recently to discuss all things MSU basketball. You’ll notice some background noise, which gives it a sports-bar feel, especially when the St. Louis Blues fans reacted to a goal when we recorded this Thursday night, as well as our waitress who tried to keep our beverages full.

Well, look there. Allen and Brett (finally) pick some NFL games correctly and they get another podcast? Yep, that’s what happened. After a combined 2-6 Wild Card weekend, the Divisional round was much kinder, with a 6-2 week, bringing them back to .500.

But this week, they wholeheartedly disagree with each other on their Super Bowl picks. Who was crazy enough to pick the Jets (again)? Who thinks the Colts are being disrespected way too much and are going to throttle the Jets? Can anyone actually give a reason why the Saints will beat the Vikings?

And the lesson ultimately learned here: Brett Favre-Super Bowl talk is so infectious, it can even infiltrate a championship weekend podcast. It’s as contagious and ridiculous as the new Prince-Vikings song. Worst. Song. Ever. It makes We All Love the Red Sox sound like the Beatles.

This guy won a Super Bowl with the Rams. What does he have in common with Drew Brees? More than you think.

Time for another round of the NFL playoffs — and another playoff podcast with Allen and Brett. If you listened to last week’s edition, thanks and thanks for checking out our stellar analysis that garnered us a combined 2-6 record. But, it was fun, wasn’t it?

Well, we’re back for more. Some tidbits: What Peyton Manning and Jeff Hornacek have in common, why nobody believes in the Minnesota Vikings and why the Counterintuitive Cardinals Conclusion is in serious jeopardy.

The bottom line? It’s not as cool as LT’s dance video, but it’s pretty sweet, if we do say so ourselves.
