B.J. Flores, the No. 4 ranked cruiserweight in the world, will fight 40-year-old Hugo Pineda October 15th at Drury’s O’Reilly Family Event Center, according to promoter Wes Slay.
Pineda is a native of Barranquilla, Columbia and has won 39 fights in his pro career including 28 knockouts. Pineda recently moved up to cruiserweight and has fought the likes of Glen Johnson, Felix Trinidad, and Kosta Tszyu.
Flores recently signed on with promoter Don King and is hoping this fight will elevate him to a WBO World Title fight next Spring.
“The WBA world champion Guillermo Jones is a tall , powerful South American southpaw. Hugo Pineda is a tall, powerful South American Southpaw. It doesn’t take a genuis to see what we are trying to accomplish with this fight.”
As best as we can find, Pineda hasn’t fought since 2008, and hasn’t won since 2006, a span of only three fights.
