There are times when being a journalist is a hurry-up-and-wait gig; this is one of those times. The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, the famous ’70s SGF-based rock group that still ranks as the city’s biggest musical break into the mainstream, has announced… a press conference. Wait, what?
The Daredevils have reunited numerous times since they retired from dedicated touring about a decade ago, most recently last year to perform at Gillioz Theatre in conjunction with the premiere of the documentary Cowtown Ballroom: Sweet Jesus! about the popular KC haunt, but even that didn’t require a press conference. In fact, the last journo gathering I attended for any music-related event in SGF was for the Greater Ozarks Blues Festival–in 2006. The band’s presser is set for Tuesday, September 6 at 10 a.m. to announce “an upcoming show featuring the Daredevils along with other bands of national and regional significance” at O’Reilly Family Event Center, and that’s as much as they or promoter Dwight Glenn Productions are currently giving away. Playing coy, they are. We’ll know more in a few days, so stay tuned. Hopefully the news proves worthy of the setup.
