Open mic nights are not an unusual choice for giving a new song or even a new music group a try, but the same cannot be said for open jam sessions. For one thing, there aren’t as many of these shows in SGF. For another, the format doesn’t favor preplanned material, or preplanned anything, for that matter. So it comes as a bit of a surprise to hear that Lilly Bee & The Johnson Three had just such a debut at the Sunday-night Open Jam at Dennis’ Place, but then the musicians involved are quite an experienced lot. The band comes with a lineup of Melissa Henderson (The Silver Hammer Band) on vocals, Bryan Roberts (The Sociables) on bass, Percussion Shop owner Bill Jackson on drums and Daniel Maple (Maple, The Sociables) on keyboard. It’s too soon to find recorded songs to listen to anywhere, but when new info comes you’ll find it on the band’s Facebook page.
