This morning, many people woke up to a statement from Missouri State men’s basketball coach Cuonzo Martin saying there had been no contact between he and the University of Missouri.
While people spent their morning trying to figure out exactly what the statement meant, the Kansas City Star’s Mike DeArmond published a report close to 2 p.m. on the Star’s Campus Corner blog stating that Mizzou had in fact contacted Martin — on Thursday night. We relayed the information on The High Road with Allen Vaughan at 2:45 p.m.
After the show, I contacted DeArmond and he told me the Star has backed off the story, reaffirming there has been contact, but not the type of “Hey, let’s come do an interview” contact. You’ll notice by clicking here, the part about Martin being contacted by Mizzou has been removed.
DeArmond will join THR on Monday at 2 p.m. on Jock 98.7 FM and Jock987.com to break down Mizzou’s thoughts on the job, and where that might leave the Missouri State coach. Still, DeArmond, a long-time Mizzou reporter — dangled this nugget.
“The job Martin really wants is the Purdue job. It’s in his best interest for (Matt) Painter to get (the Mizzou job).”
It is all interesting, and far from done.
