How often do you get home from a great SGF concert and wish you would have bought the band’s CD? Maybe you want to be able to listen to your favorite local artist in your car driving around town, but forgot to pick up their music. If you’re anything like me, this probably happens quite often. Usually I get so wrapped up in being at a show and have such a great time with friends that I forget to support the
artists who create the music for my listening pleasure. I get home and wish I could listen to the songs again. Borders is closing its doors–and with them its local CD rack–in the next few weeks, but luckily for SGF music fans, there are several music stores nearby which shelve local artists’ music you’d like to spin at home. The following are the best places in town to get your local recorded music fix.
Stick It In Your Ear
Located in downtown SGF, Stick It In Your Ear has one of the largest and most diverse selections of music in town. The store offers 50-100 local CDs to help build your SGF music library. The guys at Stick It In Your Ear are extremely helpful and work with you to find music that best fits your taste. Throw in the fact that the store also has upwards of 30,000 vinyl records for sale and Stick It In Your Ear
instantly becomes a hometown music store where you can spend hours hanging out and searching for tunes. They even put on a vinyl for you to listen to before you’re ready to buy it. If you haven’t made it to Stick It In Your Ear, we highly recommend you set aside some time to look through their collection.
CD Warehouse
CD Warehouse has become another go-to place for all of your local music needs. The outlet features 50-100 different CDs from local artists at any given time. CD Warehouse also has a great selection of brand new music if you’re looking for the sounds that just dropped. Spend some time going through CD Warehouse’s enormous collection of music and pick up a CD or two from local bands to help support great SGF music and artists.
High Strung Music
High Strung Music, although primarily an instrument store, sells a few CDs from local acts. The store carries 10 to 15 different local SGF albums, mostly from bluegrass bands. The next time you’re out to see a bluegrass show and forgot to pick up the CD, check out High Strung Music.
Best Buy
Although this large retailer carries mostly national acts, you can find a few SGF artists sprinkled throughout its music section. Best Buy also has a growing collection of new and reissued vinyl records for audiophiles and lovers of classic album artwork.
