Parkview football = Playoffs.
It doesn’t seem possible. Remember, in 2008, the Vikings broke a 58-game losing streak and won that game on a field goal in double overtime.
On Friday night, there was a little bit of deja vu. Trailing 14-12 after a missed extra point and a failed two-point conversion, Parkview High School’s football team took the ball from its own 27 to the Glendale 20 with less than two minutes on the clock.
And although there was some confusion with the actual time remaining in the game, Parkview spiked the ball with 0.9 seconds remaining, giving senior kicker Seth Shockley a chance to be the hero.
The result: A successful 30-yard field goal and a 15-14 win at Glendale.
Not bad when you consider Shockley had never even attempted one in a game before. After playing football in middle school, Shockley said he didn’t play at Parkview, until some friends convinced him. Boy, was he in the right place at the right time.
There is much more to this story, considering the Vikings hadn’t been to the playoffs since 1995, but we’ll let Shockley and senior quarterback Cory Faz, who engineered the drive, tell it.
