Photos: Costume winners and losers from Pets and Pumpkins

Buzz Lightyear Dog

Picture 2 of 21

SGFers shrugged off the rain and poured onto Historic Commercial Street for the third annual Pets and Pumpkins event on Saturday where they celebrated their pets by *torturing them with costumes. No dog is a winner while dressed up as a different animal, of course, but let’s judge them anyway.

* (Ed: No animals were tortured at Pets and Pumpkins or in the taking of any photos.)

The winners

1. Jockey Dog

2. Goat Chicken Dog

3. Cowboy Dog

4. Lazy Pumpkin Dog

5. Any bulldog wearing wings

Honorable Mention

* Any large dog wearing a little hat
* Any dog not in costume

The losers

1. I Wore the Clock So You Could Tell the Time Dog

2. Cow Dog

3. Princess Riding a Unicorn Dog

4. Cat Dog – the ultimate disrespect to your canine is to dress it up as a feline

5. SGF sanitation workers

Dishonorable Mention

* Accessory Dog
* Toto – real original, Dorothy

You would think they could find someone else to cover this story. The remark about us torturing our pets with costumes is just plain stupid. I dressed my dog up for this and I believed she loved it. I am a vegetarian for the sole reason that the animals are tortured for our consumption. Wondering if the writer of the story is and how he will be voting on Prop B.

That’s fair, Heather. The line about “torture” was completely in jest. Obviously no animals are getting actually tortured by being in costume. Though it’s fun to watch the ones who act like it while trying to escape. My rescue mutt will be with me to vote “yes” on B. Thanks for reading.

Mrs. Brett has informed me that “Wicked Witch of the West Dog” is actually dressed as a flying evil monkey employed by the real Wicked Witch. Also, it seems “I wore the clock so you can tell the time dog” is supposed to be the rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. My apologies, Mr. Flav.
