Sometime during his monster season last year, Parkview High School running back Darin Francis saw that he might catch up to Lee Coleman’s career touchdown mark for Springfield Public Schools. Francis didn’t think much of it. The record would be special, but his focus has always been on the Vikings making the postseason. Francis rushed for 1,560 yards as a junior and scored 26 times (23 rushing, 3 receiving). For his career, the senior has 43 total, and needs three to tie Coleman. Coleman scored 46 times over his tenure with the Hillcrest Hornets (1996-99). The Vikings face Willard at JFK Stadium tonight (10/1).
TAGsgf.com caught up with Francis to talk about the record, his future as a baseball player and the students reaction to new rules for high school dances set by Springfield Public Schools (students weren’t thrilled).
