Lebowski The Dude Abides: Cornbelt Chorus playing a Big Lebowski theme party Friday night (Links NSFW)Theme parties rock, and perhaps none more than those centered around a good movie. Animal House-style toga party? Great; just remember to wear boxers. Caddyshack? Sure, but leave the clubs at home, there, Ty Webb. To Wong Foo all-out dragfest? Hey, do it if it’s yours to do; this guy looks bad in rouge. Back on-topic: Any movie-themed party has the potential for a good time, but most such bashes need something or someone there to rep for the soundtrack. It’s an important part of most movies these days, after all. Sunshine Lanes is throwing its own all-ages theme party tomorrow night for the 1998 Cohen brothers classic The Big Lebowski, and to fill their soundtrack-playing needs they’ve sought and acquired one of the best, if more unlikely: Indie folk-rock darling Cornbelt Chorus, which has been decidedly low-key lately while putting the last details together for the release of its album Monsters and the Color Red. You’ll hear numerous songs from that album during the show, naturally, but the focus will be on the music from Lebowski‘s soundtrack. With that said, we’re not sure we’re supposed to tell you songs you can expect to hear. (Cough. Cough. Ahem.) Proper theme attire (think houserobe) is welcomed and encouraged, and, in proper Dude fashion, there will be drink specials all night on White Russians. Cover is $5 for the show, or $12 to get in and receive unlimited chances to partake in The Dude’s favorite activity–bowling–from 10 to 1. (Ironically, that’s one hour into Shabbos.) Get there at 10 p.m. for the start, and remember: Don’t f*** with the Jesus.
