drury university 250x234 Wanna know how Drury Universitys OReilly Family Event Center is celebrating its opening? Um, got a month?SGF is just weeks away from a brand-new event spot, as the finishing touches are well underway on the O’Reilly Family Event Center on Drury University campus. The 3,000-plus-seat facility will be the new home of Panthers and Lady Panthers volleyball and basketball, but the university isn’t waiting for games to start to throw the doors open. Instead, it’s planning 10 events in October–the tenth month of 2010; is there a numerologist on staff?–to make a monthlong kickoff party the likes of which haven’t been seen in the city anytime recently, and perhaps not ever. So just what do Drury and its shiny new facility have up their collective sleeves? Check this out:

Event 1, October 1: O’Reilly Family Event Center’s Grand Opening, with building tours, a barbeque, a concert with M-Dock Band and former Lady Panther-turned-country singer Liz Moriondo, and a fireworks show. Tickets to the event are $15 for the public and $10 for Drury students and children 12-and-under.

Event 2, October 2: Panther Run benefiting Care to Learn. The center serves as the run’s starting and ending point for the 10-kilometer and five-kilometer runs and two-mile run/walk. The Panther Run is the first race in the Ozark Mountain Ridge Runners’ Triple Crown series.

Event 3, October 8: Lady Panther volleyball gets its first home game of 2010, hosting the University of Missouri of Science and Technology at 7 p.m.

Event 4, October 9: Springfield Symphony Pops concert series featuring music from famous movies.

Event 5, October 15: Panthers and Lady Panthers basketball will entertain fans with its annual kickoff event at 7 p.m. Admission is one can of food.

Event 6, October 16: Hammons School of Architecture’s 25th Anniversary Gala Event.

Event 7, October 23: The ninth annual Drury Athletics Auction starts at 5 p.m.

Event 8, October 28: Axel & The Equators bring swinging blues to the building. Tickets are $25.

Event 9, October 29: Lifehouse and 2009 American Idol winner Kris Allen team up for what should be a huge show for contemporary music fans. Tickets go on sale Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. and cost $29, $25 and $20, depending on seating location.

Event 10, October 30: The Grand Opening Finale Concert with Aretha Franklin at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available.
