Tonight is not your typical Detectives show at The Outland. This time around the weekly ’50s and ’60s rock ‘n’ roll covers group welcomes special guest Shawn Eckels to the stage to lend an extra guitar to the proceedings. Not only is this a bonus for tonight, but it’s also a sneak peek of sorts at the backing band for next week’s second J.M. Buttermilk’s Hot Buttered Soul ‘n’ R&B Revue tribute show, since Eckels and The Detectives form the backbone of the group. Who can resist a good warmup round?

There’s a whole lot more afoot on this Thursday evening, too:

* Ryan A. Bonnarens Memorial Show at The Outland Ballroom. Members of The Shotgun Brothers, The Lowdown Fancy and Honky Suckle team up to celebrate the life of a fallen friend killed in a motorcycle accident last month at age 24.

* 2010 Individual World Poetry Slam Qualifier with musical guest Devlin Pierce at Nathan P. Murphy’s. The Murphy’s stage is handed over for MoPoetry’s monthly slam event, which is a special occasion itself this time with the winner going on to national competition. There will still be music, though, and Pierce’s acoustic prose is a good fit.

* Cherry Bomb Burlesque and Go Baby Go! at Lindberg’s

* The LemonDrop DJs with guest Plush at The High Life Live Martini Lounge

* Tripwire at Brighton Creek Bar & Grill

* Gas Pump Talent at Ebbets Field

* Mug Unplugged Open Mic Night at The Ugly Mug Live Music Tavern

* Kristi Meredith at Springfield Brewing Company

* Bud Johnson & The Ringers at The Daily Pub

* Cruize Control at Cartoons

* Double Barrel at Three 20′s Club
