You have 10 days to get ready. The first time J.M. Buttermilk’s Hot Buttered Soul ‘n’ R&B Revue landed in The Outland the downtown Springfield spot it was almost more than the crowd–or the stage, with so many people crammed onto it–could handle. If you don’t believe us, check out this video of the ’60s soul tribute show’s rendition of the Wilson Pickett classic “Land of 1,000 Dances.” Felt your booty shaking in your chair a little? That’s good, because the show is returning to the stage Saturday, August 28, and the second time around should take things to the next level. Expect to see Shawn Eckels of Speakeasy on guitar all night for a show totaling a full two hours. Expect to see a slew of guests and surprises, too, all held down by Mr. J.M. Buttermilk (as played by former Dirty Blondes singer Ran Cummings III) and a backing band comprised of members of weekly Thursday-night old-school rock ‘n’ roll covers group The Detectives. In other words, it’s time to greet the end of summer with a little watusi.
