Former Kickapoo High School and Creighton forward Anthony Tolliver has signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to News-Leader reporter Lyndal Scranton and KOLR/KSFX weekend anchor Charlie Hannema.

“They’re a very young team and I’m just excited about playing for a team that has a lot of potential and room to grow,” Tolliver told the News-Leader’s Scranton.

Tolliver didn’t discuss the terms, but AOL Fanhouse said the contract was worth $4.8 million of guaranteed money. Of course, Tolliver helped Kickapoo to a state title in 2003 and played four years at Creighton, but was undrafted out of college. He shuttled between teams in the NBA’s Developmental League over the past two years and made his mark after averaging 11.7 points and 7 rebounds during 46 games for the Golden State Warriors.

On The High Road with Allen Vaughan, a Jock 98.7 FM radio show from 2-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, Tolliver said last week he was down between Minnesota and Golden State and was waiting to hear final offers from both teams.

While Vaughan postured for Tolliver to take less money and play for a contender — something he said he turned down with the Los Angeles Lakers — the Springfield native took the guaranteed money to play for a rebuilding Minnesota, which had a second-NBA worst 15-67 record last season.
