Kitchen Community Garden looking for volunteers, an update from WFNA

Community Garden 250x187 Kitchen Community Garden looking for volunteers, an update from WFNA

SGFers install the community garden at Ozarks Empire Fairground in April, 2009.

It’s been a fantastic gardening season so far! I imagine a lot of you are reaping the benefits and eating lot’s of fresh produce right now. It’s a great time to plan for your Fall Garden in the midst of this heat wave!

The Kitchen Community Garden is in transition right now and we could really use some volunteers to help with Fall Planting and Future Planning. We are deciding on a greenhouse for the garden and I’m wondering if there’s any greenhouse experts out there?

The vision for the 1000 Gardens Project is to build a Community Garden in every neighborhood, promote garden education in schools and community centers, promote Farmers Markets and Urban Farms, build corner grocery stores, help assess home gardens and provide resources for the Community. Currently our focus is on Center City with plans of a City-Wide and then State-Wide program. To do this we will need a 1000 Gardens Community Center. We are searching for a location and a Grant to make this possible and Non-Profit Status to build a staff to provide training and manage the gardens.

If you would like to be involved in the development of the 1000 Gardens Project or to volunteer please contact Aubree Taylor at 417-763-1707 or by email at 1000gardensproject@gmail.com
