The Show Report, 7/15: Free Shows Rule

Chribellphoto 200x300 The Show Report, 7/15: Free Shows RulePicture this scenario, if you will: A talented nationally touring blues guitarist–Chris Bell, let’s say–comes to SGF to play a show. There’s a cover, obviously, but not if you walk into the club the night of the show and give the doorperson the codeword. Only happens in the movies, you say? For tonight, at least, you would be wrong. Bell is in town, playing at Nathan P. Murphy’s, and while this is an $8 ticket it also happens to be Fan Fun Day, where the club says thanks to its fans by letting you in the club for FREE by saying the word “fan” at the door. Additionally, if you come early (between 6 and 8 p.m.) the club will have a cocktail reception with door prizes and more. It doesn’t get better than free.

Taking a look around the rest of your Thursday night:

* Hamburger Cows at The Tipsy Turtle Pub. A two-man covers and jam act of rapidly growing popularity, the boys (well, men, really; it’s Steve Ames and Bo Brown of The Lowdown Fancy) bring their show to the Turtle tonight with their usual open-door policy regarding collaborators. If you have an instrument and time, you’re welcome to come down and play.

* The Detectives at The Outland

* Tripwire at Brighton Creek Bar & Grill

* Gas Pump Talent at Ebbets Field

* Kool Aid at Tonic Ultralounge

* The LemonDrop DJs with guest Plush at The High Life Live Martini Lounge

* The ABS Band at W.F. Cody’s South

* Kells Water (6 p.m.) and Kyle Lacy and Devlin Pierce (10 p.m.) at Lindberg’s

* Mug Unplugged Open Mic Night at The Ugly Mug Live Music Tavern

* Kristi Meredith at Springfield Brewing Company

* Cruize Control at Cartoons

* Cold Creek at Three 20′s Club
