The Show Report, 7/8: The Substitute

the substitute 1996 w666 img 231380 218x300 The Show Report, 7/8: The SubstituteNo, we’re not discussing the finer points of ’90s Tom Berenger movies, though if you want to travel down that road consider this a vote for Major League II. In this case “The Substitute” refers to the band standing in for The Detectives at The Outland for this week’s Thursday-night gig: Chaka Khantraband. Don’t know them? Oh, but you do. Shawn Eckels, Ryan Fannin and Reed Herron–three-fourths of Speakeasy, in other words–team up with guitarist Richie Rebuth of The Rugs for what promises to be an awesome set, and if we’re deciphering the hints in the Facebook event listing correctly you’re going to see a cameo appearance by local rapper SincerelyYours for a special set of Rage Against the Machine songs. Get ready to rock.

Elsewhere in your musical Thursday night:

* Me Talk Pretty at The Outland Ballroom. MTP is a good young rock band on the up and a show modern rock fans won’t want to miss. We’ll let the band’s music video for its debut single “Wake Up” do the rest of the talking:

* The LemonDrop DJs with guests Far Out and Abstract at The High Life Live Martini Lounge

* Gas Pump Talent at Ebbets Field

* Rusty Rose at Nathan P. Murphy’s

* Knife*Death and The Beltniks at Lindberg’s

* Trash Angels at The Daily Pub

* The ABS Band at W.F. Cody’s South

* Tripwire at Brighton Creek Bar & Grill

* Two for the Road at Cartoons

* Kristi Meredith at Springfield Brewing Company
