It sounds crazy, but say it to yourself out loud if it will sink in better that way: Aretha Franklin is coming to perform in Springfield. According to a press release from Drury University published today, the Grammy award winner and Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee is scheduled to perform at the O’Reilly Family Events Center Saturday, October 30 to close out the university’s monthlong celebration of the new facility’s grand opening. Tickets go on sale July 6 at 10 a.m. (you can click here to get them) with a cost ranging between $45 and $125, depending on seating location.
Franklin, of course, is known best for her rendition of the Otis Redding song “Respect,” but her body of work extends beyond that with 18 Grammy nominations and 20 number-one hits. Her nickname is “The Queen of Soul,” but in reality she’s the closest thing America has to the operatic diva–right down to performing opera, in fact, as she substituted once for Luciano Pavarotti. Hers is a world-class voice and onstage presence. Is hers the new SGF Concert of the Year? We’ll have to wait and see.
