Mama let her baby grow up to be a cowboy. Sorry; couldn’t resist. Lukas Nelson, the son of country music legend (and recent SGF visitor) Willie Nelson, is a touring musician himself–a veteran of Bonnaroo, among other festivals, not to mention an occasional guest performer with his dad–and he’s bringing his band, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, to Patton Alley Pub this Monday, May 10 at 8 p.m.
Okay, so he’s not really a cowboy. Promise of the Real’s style is much more like that of a modernized Allman Brothers Band than a country show; in other words, it’s very bluesy in parts, with long rock-out jams and soulful vocals. Nelson certainly does sing a little like his dad, though, which sort of juxtaposes with the rest of the music if one is used to Willy’s performances. It’s engaging stuff. Peep some vid to see what I’m talking about:
The cover for the show is $7. Leave the cowboy hat at home.
