TAG 5: Summer Beers

(TAG 5 is a top five list compiled by secret ballot, submitted by the four horsemen of TAG. An extremely complicated equation is used to calculate the polls. Mostly they are related to SGF, sometimes they are not. A new TAG 5 is released every Monday.)

What's your go-to summer beer?

For those of us at TAGsgf.com, beer is very, very important. Since the staff is comprised of four guys, this week’s list of ideal summertime beers has a surprise at the top. Leinenkugel’s Berry Weiss didn’t reach No. 1 on any individual lists, but acquired 10 points collectively. Ideal summer beers are able to quench thirst and go down easily (sometimes quickly). Leine’s berry wheat does both. The curveball is our No. 2 beer, Guinness. It looks funny, because people relate summer beers to light/clear. As TAGsgf.com staffer Chris DeRosier said, “I drink it year round.” I‘m in the same boat. Tied for third are the four selections for favorite summer beer on each individual list (Hazed and Infused – light pale ale, Corona – lime or not, Miller Chill – gross Allen … just kidding … maybe, Summer Shandy – a crisp summer ale). What are your favorite beers for the year’s warm quarter? Let us know below.

Four votes (as of 4/26/10)
Total points, first-place votes in parenthesis

1. Leinenkugel Berry Weiss – 10
2. Guinness – 6

T3. Miller Chill – 5 (1)
T3. Leinenkugel Summer Shandy – 5 (1)

Miller Chill is the devil. I can’t help it.

Schlafly Summer Kolsch gets my vote for number one, although I tend to have a revolving door of summer beers which includes Boulevard’s Zon, Schlafly’s Summer Kolsch, and Goose Island’s India Pale Ale. Also, I also like to occasionally buy an 8-pack of Bitburger Premium Pils.

You’re right about one thing, Allen. Miller Chill is evil, although I don’t think it’s evil in the same way you do.

Miller Chill is not the Devil. It’s just limeade.

My summer beers are a revolving door, but I tend to like Schlafly Summer Kolsch, Goose Island IPA, Boulevard Zon, and Sam Adams Summer Ale. OF course, this summer may be different.

Another great summer beer I haven’t had in a while is Bitburger Premium Pils. You’ve seen it at the wine center, but probably didn’t know if you should try it. Comes in 8-packs of half-liter cans. It’s pretty good.

I’ve always had an affinity for girly beers. Now, it’s official. Ugh.
