The $5 Lunch: Ott’s Pasta

CIMG0238 250x187 The $5 Lunch: Otts Pasta

The small, converted house on Cherry and Pickwick provides a perfect $5 lunch.

For those familiar, it is already known as the perfect $5 lunch, but my last visit to Ott’s Pasta made me realize not everybody is aware. I met somebody who has lived in SGF his entire life and was only a few weeks ago introduced to the small pick-up pasta spot on East Cherry.
“Now I can’t stay away,” he said. There wasn’t enough time for too many formalities, as the brown bag lunches – (generous) salad, three breadsticks, and pasta dish – quickly appear from the kitchen (four-ish minutes).
The pasta options are many, but I can never order something other than the House Casserole. It’s got a sour cream/cream cheese (I’ve tried to figure it out for about 12 years now and can’t, but am too stubborn to ask. It might be both. Whatever it is, it’s delicious.) with the noodles completely covered in the hearty homemade marinara sauce. My wife has the same feelings about the lasagna. Too be honest, I’d order the lasagna, it’s so good, but I know that I will get the last 3-4 bites of hers. It creates perfect portions for each of us.
I have tried the fettucine Alfredo and mostaccioli before, each of which was mighty tasty, as well. While we were in the store we received a rave review of the tortellini, as well.
The salad comes with a house dressing, which is reminds me of a sweet Italian dressing. I don’t really like sweet Italian, but Ott’s has the dressing game on lock.
The bread is light and ideal for grabbing that extra sauce at the end of your noodles. Make sure to save a ‘stick for the end.
The best part is that (without a soda – you don’t need it anyway) the total comes to $5.
