Pete Kozma
With the Springfield Cardinals set for their home opener at 7 p.m. tonight at Hammons Field, there might not be a bigger storyline than Pete Kozma’s. The first round pick from the 2007 draft arrived at Double-A Springfield last season, but cooled off after a hot start. He hit .216 in 407 Double-A at-bats, but also committed more than 30 errors between High-A Palm Beach and Double-A Springfield.
Still, Kozma has an encouraging trend if you look at his minor league numbers. After struggling at a level to finish a season, he starts off scalding that same level and earns a promotion. The St. Louis Cardinals have to be hoping that trend continiues. Either way, he’ll start his 2010 here and we’ll get to watch it first-hand.
