The Show Report, 3/12: Prepare to Boogey

BoogeyMen 250x187 The Show Report, 3/12: Prepare to BoogeyYes, “boogie” is misspelled above. This isn’t a request to shake tailfeather so much as to psych up for the return of the berating masked man known as Diablo Maximus. The BoogeyMen, local music’s instrumental surf rock-meets-Morricone hybrid led by Maximus, are back and headlining The High Life Live Martini Lounge tonight, teaming up with Knife*Death and The Spites to bring you rock in numerous not-to-be-taken-too-seriously forms. It’s a night for partying, which should never be a serious thing. And as long as you’re partying, you’ll want to know about and be in some of these places, too:

* Black Box Revue with guest Lucy & The Popsonics and We Are Like the Spider at The Outland. It’s BBR’s last Friday-night show before traveling to Austin for SXSW next week, and to celebrate the DJ collective brought in its friends from Brazil and backs them up with a tune-up performance by WALTS before it plays at the Lose Control party.

* Chance Ray & The Good Sinners at The Ugly Mug Live Music Tavern. We finally got our hands on the country group’s album, Stoneman Blues, and can honestly say our soft spot for the song “Roll On By” was not incidental. We won’t spoil it here (watch for the full review in a bit), but this band in the city’s best-sounding room will be a show easily worth the trip to the North Side.

* The Bootheel, The Paperclips and Ghost Dance at Lindberg’s

* The Electrics at Dennis’ Place

* Fiera, Plasticity Switch, Break the Barrier and 2 Behind the Ear at The Outland Ballroom

* The Foghorn String Band at Patton Alley Pub

* Flying Machines and Sovereign at Nathan P. Murphy’s

* The Lowdown Fancy at the Park Central Branch Library (7 p.m.)

* Queen City Spotlight with Lija at Borders Bookstore (7 p.m.)

* The Expectations at Mille’s Turn of the Century Cafe

* Gas Pump Talent at Tipsy Turtle Pub
