Tuesday’s Live Blog of high school district hoops from Parkview!

parkview.logo Tuesdays Live Blog of high school district hoops from Parkview!

Here is the Parkview Viking logo. They are your gracious Class 5 District 11 host.

9:10: OK, I’m headed out of here, but thanks for joining me. Two great games and more to come tomorrow. We’ll be here for the girls’ semifinals and will be live at 5:45 p.m. Have a great night.

9:01: Somehow Glendale doesn’t foul and Tillery gets a layup at the buzzer. Parkview wins 70-66. Tillery finishes with 20 points and Poke has 22. Harbour has 21 to lead Glendale. The Parkview student section breaks out in a “Let’s play Nixa” chant. Be careful what you wish for.

8:58: Durham, a freshman, steps to the line and sinks both. And on cue, Hedges sinks a 3 to cut it to 68-66 with 11.1 left. Glendale just won’t go away, even though most of them aren’t old enough to drive.

8:57: Poke makes two free throws and just when you think Glendale is out of it, Harbour sinks a 3 from the right wing. 66-63 Parkview, 21.9 left.

8:54: Jalen Goodwin makes two free throws and Harbour misfires from 3. Goodwin makes one of two FTs and Parkview is up 64-60, 42.6 left.

8:53: Nolan Bettlach makes both free throws to make it 61-60 with 1:09 left. Parkview possession.

8:51: Tillery has the ball stripped and Glendale was fouled heading to the hoop. 1:15 left and the drama continues to build.

8:49: Tillery is having a huge game. A bucket and a free throw make it 61-58 with 1:35 left. Tillery has 18 points and a ton of rebounds that I’m not counting. Sorry.

8:45: Hodges gets fouled and sinks two free throws to tie the game at 58 with 3:45 left. Thee is still time to get here and catch the finish of this game. You can follw the Live Blog on your phone.

8:44: Accord gets one on the break, gets fouled and sinks two free throws. PV up 58-56, 4:45 left.

8:41: We are all tied up after an 8-2 run from Glendale, including 3-pointers from Harbour and Hodges. 5:22 left.

8:39: Tillery converts a 3-point play. Freedman gets an answer bucket to keep it 54-50 Parkview, 6:33 left.

8:37: Glendale needs an answer to stay in this game and an answer to Poke. No scoring in the quarter’s first minute.

8:34: And here comes Parkview. Tillery hits two free throws, Accord scores on a brilliant feed from Poke after a Halter turnover and Poke hits a floating  jumper for his 20th point of the game – 10 in the quarter. Parkview now leads 51-46 after three quarters. Looks like Parkview needed to get hit in the mouth to wake up. I’d say the Vikings are awake.

8:31: Not trying to pat myself on the back, but I just turned to TJ and said Glendale is always just a second away from an 8-0 run. Instead, Thomas Halter is turning instant legend. He hits three consecutive 3s to prop Glendale up with an 11-2 run. The Falcons have their first lead since early in thegame at 46-45 with 1:04 left 3Q.

8:25: Parkview has opened up a 38-33 lead with 4:14 left , aided by a Poke 3-poiner. If you haven’t seen the 5-9 junior play, he’s a special little dude.

8:23: Someone needs to check Harbour. He has five to start the quarter and 15 for the game. Parkview’s lead has dwindled to 32-31 with 5:36 left 3Q.

8:22: Normally Glendale wants the pace as frenetic as possible, but tonight, the Falcons will take it without Johnson. No points in the first minute of play.

8:20: Sorry again about the lack of halftime entertainment, but tomorrow, I’ll come prepared. It’s almost time for the second half.

8:14: Stat geekage: Parkview’s scoring – Poke 10, Tillery 7, Hitchcock 4, Accord 3, Durham 3, Goodwin 3; Glendale scoring - Harbour 10, Halter 5, Hodges 3, Keltner 3, Freedman 3, Hedges 2.

8:12: The rumor mill buzzing around this place is that Branson’s Chris Ogden, a swingman for the Pirates will miss Thursday’s semifinal against Kickapoo because of some type of suspension. If you remember, Kickapoo nearly beat Branson in the Blue and Gold semifinals. Stay tuned. I’ll try to find out exactly what happened.

8:09: Tillery cleans up a mess to make the score 30-26. Poke misses a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer, but Glendale has tobe pleased with this. No Cameron Johnson and they hold Parkview to nine second quarter points.

8:08: Need a basket. Give it to a….freshman? Erik Durham comes off the bench and hits a 3-poiner. 28-24 Parkview, 39.8 left, but this has to be too close for comfort for Parkview.

8:05: Thomas Halter comes off the bench and nails a 3-pointer to make the score 25-24 Parkview. Parkview hasn’t scored since the 5:48 mark, a 6-0 run for Glendale.

8:03: A ton of missed shots for both sides until Blake Freedman cans a 3-poiner. Glendale is still hanging around, down 25-21 with 4:08 left.

8:01: TJ comes back from interviewing the Kickapoo and Ozark contingencies and says, “That snaps a 6-game losing streak to Ozark.” Ouch. Thanks TJ.

7:59: Poke scores a gain on a beautiful pass from Hitchcock, who is operating in the post. Hedges answers on the other end. Parkview up 23-18, 6:50 2Q.

7:57: Jordan Hitchcock’s J in the paint is no good and Parkview takes a 21-16 lead after one quarter. Poke has eight to lead both teams.

7:55: Joey Harbour gets a free throw to stop the bleeding, and sandwiches a Poke 15-footer with a 3-poiner. Parkview up 21-16, 33 secs left.

7:53: This browser can hardly keep up with the pace of the game. Sophmore Taylor Accord comes off the bench and hits a 3, Alex Poke lays one in and Tillery bangs a 3 for an 8-0 run and a Parkview 19-12 lead, 1:45 1Q.

7:50: Another flurry of action, with Glendale ripping off five straight to take a brief lead until Jalen Goodwin converts a 3-point play to make it 11-9 Parkview with 2:50 left Q.

7:49: Both teams are off to a fast start, with Parkview leading 8-4 with 5:37 left in the first quarter. Poke and Hitchcock have four apiece, while Hodges has all four for Glendale.

7:46: Glendale starters – Nolan Bettlach, Joey Harbour, Thomas Hedges, Blake Freedman; Parkview starters – Jalen Goodwin, Jordan Hitchcock, Korry Tillery, Diondre Johnson, Alex Poke.

7:40: Cuonzo Martin must have just been here because of Wingert, because I don’t see the MSU coach any longer. That Wingert-Dingman matchup is  going to be a good one for him Thursday. Will he make a return appearance?

7:36: OK, not that this is going out on much of a limb, but I’m picking Parkview in this one, and not just because of the 84-66 beatdown from Feb. 13. Alex Poke will be too much, even for Glendale’s quick guards.

7:30: OK, time for game No. 2 as Parkview will host Glendale. Unfortunately, Glendale sophomore phenom Cameron Johnson will not play because of lingering effects from a concussion suffered last week.

7:25: Kickapoo wins 62-53. Anderson finishes with Kickapoo’s final nine poins for 20. Wingert adds 13 and 13 rebounds All of Underwood’s eight poins came in the fourth quarter. Monroe leads Ozark with a game-high 22 points.

7:22: Ligon scores in the too-little, too-late department. That’s only five poins for Ozark in the last 4-plus minutes. Kicakpoo up 60-49 with 36.9 seconds. Looks like the Chiefs will face top-seeded Branson on Thursday.

7:20: Cody Anderson scores back to back buckets and after goin scoreless for nearly four minutes, Kickapoo is on a 13-3 run with 1:21 left.

7:18: Underwood scores again. He has the last seven Kickapoo points. Ligon makes one of  two FTs, but Kickapoo is starting to pull away. Poo up 53-47, 2:09 left.

7:17: Brandon Helsel fouls Monroe on a shot and fouls out. Monroe sinks two FTs and it’s 51-46, 2:27 left.

7:16: Underwood then steals Arnold’s crossover attempt and makes two free throws. Kickapoo all of a sudden on a 7-0 run, up 51-44 with 2:54 left.

7:14: If you were in the “Kickapoo needs a bucket” crowd, Wingert delivers. Hall finds him on a backdoor cut. After a rebound, Underwood converts a 3-point play to make it 49-44, 3:17 left.

7:13: Monroe buries a 3-pointer in front of Ozark’s bench. It ties the game at 44 with 5:03 left. Ozark is on a 12-1 run.

7:11: Two Holtzclaw FTs bring Ozark to within 43-41 with 6:59 left. Underwood sinks one of two FTs to score Kickapoo’s first points since the 1:21 mark of the third quarter. Kickapoo up 44-41, 6:05 4Q.

7:07: Without Anderson, Kickapoo is a different team. Ozark starts the quarter with a Monroe bucket and a wide-open 3-pointer from Cohen. Kickapoo leads 43-39, 7:18 4Q. Is it too early to discuss the Ozark 20-point second-half comeback against the Poo in 2007-08? We’ll get to that later.

7:05: Kickapoo gets a huge bucket from Brandon Ridder and Ozark misfires on back-to-back 3-point buckets, before Ligon cleans up with an offensive rebound. TJ leans over and tells me Ozark has missed its last 10 3s, 11 if you count that half-courter Zeke Monroe nearly made. Kickapoo up 43-34 after three quarters.

7:03: Two FTs from Zeke Monroe and Kickapoo’s lead has shrunk to 41-32, 1:34 3Q. Time out Kickapoo.

7:01: The Anderson T could end up being a huge play, if for nothing else, Ozark’s guards were having a hard time keeping him in front of them. He’s sitting on the bench next to the assistant coaches in the pink shirts in support of girls’ coach Stephanie Phillips.

6:59: Kickapoo’s Cody Anderson commits a charge on a play he thought should have been a 3-point play. Not only did the referee disagree, he gives Anderson a technical. Arnold makes a free throw and Ligon converts inside. Ozark claws back within 41-30 with 2:38 left 3Q.

6:57: Ozark is imploding. Kickapoo is on a 12-0 run after Tyler Hall sinks two more free throws. Ozark has turned it over three consecutive times. 41-27, 3:12 left.

6:54: Kickapoo unleashes a 7-0 run with Anderson layup, Wingert’s 3PP and a Helsel jumper. As I type, Kickapoo gets a 3PP from Hall to make it 39-27. 3:26 3Q. It’s been more than two minutes since Ozark scored.

6:52: Speaking of Martin, the possible attraction for him – Brodie Wingert – converts a 3-point play. He’s a nice blend of speed, quickness and basketball skill. I’m not sure if he’s going to end up at MSU, but I can’t see Martin here to see anyone else, unless he’s politicking and he’s here alone.

6:47: Second half is under way and it looks like Kickapoo is coming out wiith a triangle and 2. Holtzclaw gets fouled and makes both free throws, but it’s secondary to Cuonzo Martin’s entrance to the gym. More on that in a second. Kickapoo is up 31-27, 5:27 3Q.

6:44: First half analysis: Kickapoo is lucky to be ahead. Ozark’s 1-3-1 zone was stifling, but the Tigers couldn’t rebound out of it. If Kickapoo gets to go back to its motion offense, it could be problematic. As for Ozark, the Chiefs can’t match up with Ligon inside. He should have way more than four points.

6:41: Stat geekery: Kickapoo’s scoring – Anderson 10, Wingert 8, Hall 5, Helsel 2, Thornhill 2; Ozark’s scoring – Zeke Monroe 9, Arnold 7, Ligon 4, Cohen 3, Holzer 2

6:39: OK, so the fine folks at Parkview and their Secret Service-like secure Internet connection must ban YouTube, so treat yourself to some of your own halftime entertainment. I was going to cue up The Evolution of Dance. It’s a good one. I’ll be back with stats in a bit.

6:37: A flurry of scoring to end the half. Ozark goes on 7-0 run with an assortment of free throws until RyanThornhill scores to end half. Kickapoo up 29-25 at the half.

6:34: Cody Anderson knocks down a 3-pointer to give him a game-high 10 points. Zeke Monroe answers with a 3-point play and gets a free throw from Cody Holzer to make score 27-22, 33.3 left 2Q.

6:33: Each team is taking turns missing unspectacularly. Ozark has gone back to man-to-man.

6:29: Kickapoo is rag-dolling Ozark’s 1-3-1 zone on the offensive glass. Another offensive rebound leads to two Helsel FTs. Both are good enough to extend the Poo lead to 22-17 with 3:17 2Q.

6:28: Zany sequence. Austin Holtzclaw goes up and misses a shot. Ozark gets an offensive rebound, and the shot is blocked by Helsel and lands in the hands of a lying-down Cody Anderson. He flips to Chris Underwood and Kickapoo goes on its way. Kickapoo up 20-17 after a Ligon bucket. 3:17 2Q.

6:26: Ozark’s 1-3-1 zone is stymying Kickapoo’s halfcourt offense, but Wingert cleans up another mess with a tip-in. Kickapoo leads 20-15, 5:24 2Q.

6:24: Cody Anderson picks an Ozark pocket and flies in for a layup. Seth Arnold bangs in a 17-footer to make score 16-15, 6:38 2Q.

6:21: Kickapoo leads Ozark 14-13 after the first quarter. Wingert leads all scorers with six poins. Kickapoo has four offefnsive rebounds, which has been the key.

6:18: The teams are trading points in 3s. Monroe gets a 3-point play, which is answered by an Anderson 3 from the left wing, which was followed by a carbon copy triple from Arnold. Kickapoo leads 14-13, 52.8 1Q.

6:16: Wingert hits a fallaway J. We’ll see if he’s going to end up at a D-I school, but he’s easily the best player on the floor. Poo up 11-7.

6:15: Ozark’s Jared Cohen bangs in a 3-pointer that shocks TJ. The Ozark media isn’t sure if Cohen has started a game all year long. Tyler Hall answers with a 3-point play and Kickapoo leads 9-7 with 3:20 left 1Q.

6:12: Monroe is fouled on a 3-pointer and makes two of three. One thing I love about watching Ozark play is Coach Steve Hunter yelling at his team to get the ball inside. “Look at him!” Love it.

6:11: Wingert scores on back-to-back putbacks and Kickapoo leads 6-0 with 5:35 1Q. Ozark is playing good defense, but is struggling to rebound out of its zone.

6:09: Cody Anderson scores the first poins of the game on a layup. Chiefs up 2-0 early.

6:08: News-Leader stud T.J. Brice points out right before tip-off that Brodie Wingert went down with that high-ankle sprain early in the second meeting between these two teams. Remember, Ozark already has two victories over Kickapoo this season.

6:05: OK, just finished the national anthem and we are nearly under way. Kickapoo starters: Tyler Hall, Cody Anderson, Brandon Helsel, Chris Underwood, Brodie Wingert. Ozark: Isaiah Monroe, Jared Coehen, Seth Arnold, Austin Holtzclaw, Thomas Ligon.

5:53: Just talked to a local basketball fan who I respect greatly. He just told me Kickapoo by five. Uh-oh.

5:45: After wiggling through some technical difficulty, we are on time. That’s the sign it’s going to be a great week – and our hoops coverage has just begun.

OK, what team are you picking? Personally, I’m going with Ozark in the opener. There is just too much experience and while you can argue Kickapoo has more top-level talent, Ozark has done this before. I’ll save my nightcap pick for later.
