(TAG 5 is a top five list compiled by secret ballot, submitted by the four horsemen of TAG. An extremely complicated equation is used to calculate the polls. Mostly they are related to SGF, sometimes they are not. A new TAG 5 is released every Monday.)
Springfield’s proximity to Kansas City and Memphis makes for fortunate barbecue-craving SGFers. There have always been a good number of sauce-based barbecue joints, but those savory dry-rubbed meats have been infiltrating the city as well. Topping our list are a pair of Springfield staples, which make for lucky north-side dwelling SGFers. Crosstown Barbecue on Division has expanded, but kept the same familiar finger-licking slabs of ribs. Pappy’s has changed hands a few times recently, and we can’t hold their pulled meat sandwiches responsible for the owners dropping their Newcastle taps. They were the only two to receive double-digit support. Buckinghams pulled in third with a first-place vote. Pittman’s received a first-place vote, but no other support,to pull up in slot No. 5. This is a topic to revisit come Rock-n-Ribs in the summer.
