The Show Report, 1/9: “Just when I thought I was out they pull me back in…”

Everything about The Godfather Part III was kind of a planning fallacy, wasn't it?

Everything about The Godfather Part III was kind of a planning fallacy, wasn't it?

As soon as you think you have a feel for how something is going to go it turns out it won’t go like that at all. Just ask The Planning Fallacy, a popular rock group not only named for such a scenario but that lived through it as well. The band quietly split up two years ago but got the itch to play one more show and go out with one last romp in front of its fans. Forever Endeavor Productions duly put together a lineup with Bomb the Bay, scarswillfade and Throwing the Game opening for them at The Outland Ballroom. After two years out of the game, they’re back. Michael Corleone knows a thing or two about how that feels.

At least they have incentive to watch their opening acts before tearing it up onstage themselves. This is only Bomb the Bay’s second show since combining members of A Day Away, Glass Bottom Boat Ride and Playing With Matches, and their debut show on this same stage was a huge success late last year. scarswillfade, meanwhile, is playing its second show back together after a long absence of its own, only they will be sticking around a while. Throwing the Game, although the least known by name, is a young band with good pop-rock sensibilities and a lot of potential. In all, it’s a show one can take his or her time enjoying, which is sort of appropriate.

Also playing tonight:

* The Bel-Airs at Lindberg’s

* Chance Ray Band and Brian Lumley & Red Dirt Underground at The Outland. Is there anything better than two major local country acts in a room that sells cheap beer?

* Terry Quiett Band at Nathan P. Murphy’s. The Murphdome’s Winterin’ the Blues Away concert series kicks off tonight with this Kansas-based group. With more series shows on the way from Wes Jeans, Jason Ricci and even Watermelon Slim, an epic winter of blues is set to begin.

* Members Only‘s Michael Jackson Tribute Show at The High Life Live Martini Lounge. It’s the return of the show that kept Patton Alley Pub at one-in-one-out capacity the night of the Halloween pub crawl. There was a tremendous amount of talk about this show during and after the performance, particularly the dancers who came out during “Thriller” and did the zombie dance from the video. Plan on at least making a stop by this one.

* Fair Warning at Roadhouse Cycles & Saloon. They’re billed as one of the best Van Halen tribute groups in the country, and they’re playing a good-sounding room that would be very receptive to a Van Halen tribute. Pretty much a home run before a note is ever played.

* Trash Angels at Cartoons

* The Covergirlz at The Ugly Mug Live Music Tavern

* Lost Highway at Patton Alley Pub

* The Fabulous Unexpected at Harlow’s

* ABS Band at W.F. Cody’s South

* Double Barrell at Fusion Bar & Grill

* Roland Allen at Galloway Station
