The dead of winter doesn’t get much deader than this–we woke up this morning to air temps the equivalent of 14 below–and that means it’s time for a momentary escape to thoughts of summer. Ahhhh… beaches… float trips… music festivals. Summer is the time for many of America’s largest musical gatherings, with dozens of bands and thousands upon thousands of music lovers descending on one location over a few days. One such festival calls the Ozarks home: the Wakarusa Music & Camping Festival at Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas.
The festival won’t happen until June 3-6, but it’s time for bands and fans alike to start thinking about it.
From now until Thursday, January 14 bands can apply on SonicBids.com and pay a $10 application fee for a spot in one of 20 Waka Winter Classic band battles happening across the United States. Each Waka Winter Classic will have a lineup of four or five acts from within its region, and audience applause at the venues will decide which act makes it to the Wakarusa stage. The concert schedule shapes up like this:
Jan. 18 St. Louis, MO – Cicero’s
Jan. 20 Des Moines, IA – Vaudeville Mews
Jan. 21 Chicago, IL – Kinetic Playground
Jan. 22 Lincoln, NE – Bourbon Theatre
