TAG 5: Breakfast

(TAG 5 is a top five list compiled by secret ballot, submitted by the four horsemen of TAG. An extremely complicated equation is used to calculate the polls. Mostly they are related to SGF, sometimes they are not. A new TAG 5 is released every Monday.)

Gaileys TAG 5: BreakfastDoctors will tell you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day (at least I think they do, though I’ve never actually heard or read a doctor saying as much), so we want to get this out there early. While there are a bunch of spots to grab breakfast in SGF, there are really only three (maybe four) worth mentioning. In our top five list of places to start the day, Gailey’s and Anton’s were the clear favorites – each received a pair of first-place votes. Each has a great mystique and almost every venture turns into a social experience – conversation with fellow patrons or staff are never hard to find. They each offer a diner-style menu. Gailey’s leans toward a delicious variety of Eggs Benedict-type items, while Anton’s specializes in omelettes. But, if it’s pancakes you’re looking for, there’s only one stop to consider – Aunt Martha’s Pancake House. Yes, IHOP slipped into the top five, but not because it’s good – it’s open 24 hours, and sometime breakfast can’t come soon enough (about a decade ago, George’s may have received a nod for the all-hours spot, but too many servings of green gravy led to its – rather quick – demise as a restaurant option). Scramblers was squeezed into the fourth spot behind convenient locations and a friendly staff.
