Like sands through the hourglass... So are the reunion shows of our lives.
On yesterday’s episode of The Show Report…
Blaine: How dare you insult me like that, Forrest?! I am not a fool! I’m just a man trying to keep this family together while his wife receives treatment for her brain tumor. I sir, am not a fool, and there is nothing wrong with my face!
Forrest: No, Blaine, I said Fools Face, and I wasn’t talking about you. They were a really big band in Springfield years back, and they reunited last night. There are lots more bands reuniting tonight, too. Sort of a “To Be Continued…” in a way.
Blaine: Where’s Springfield, Forrest? Do we know anyone there? Were they kidnapped in any kind of extortion plot? Why are we even talking about this?! Can’t you see I have a dying wife?! And just when she had finally recovered from that fiery plane crash in the Rockies a few weeks ago!
Forrest: Blaine, you need to take a chill pill. I’m talking about music here. We’re part of the Saturday edition of The Show Report. Also, I’m really a woman, and I’ve been sleeping with your dying wife. We’re running away together.
Blaine: What’s a Sh– You’re a what?! (Raising his fists to the air, shouting) Damn this script!!!
Most “To Be Continued” scenarios carry this sort of wildly unnecessary drama, but we like to think of ours as more of a cause for celebration. After all, we’re continuing a weekend of old-school Springfield bands getting back together, which is a good time by any measure. Check this out:
* Barefoot Revolution and the original Speakeasy at Patton Alley Pub. Get ready to party like it’s 1997. Not only does BR, one of the bands at the forefront of the local late-’90s jam band explosion, resurface for the first time since 2008, they’re bringing the original Speakeasy lineup–back when it was a three-piece–along for the ride. Who knows if you’ll ever have this opportunity again.
* The Dog People at The Outland Ballroom, renewing the band’s annual drunken singalong with a packed (and we do mean packed) Ballroom in tow. Jim Wunderle sighting!
* The Hundred Hand String Band at The Outland
* Skip Skiffington & The Jihad of Love at The High Life Live Martini Lounge. The legend of Skip goes back many years in the Springfield Music Scene, leaving a path of offbeat, slightly offputting shows and blown-away audiences in its wake. Other shows may be more popular, but this may be the one we’re anticipating most.
* Steve Pryor at Nathan P. Murphy’s
* Jimmy James at The Ugly Mug Live Music Tavern
