Springfield Movie Times and Tinsel-Town Report, (12/25-12/30): The Record-Breaking Edition

Got to be honest, we're excited to see Sherlock Holmes, but hope there aren't too many scenes with a shirtless Downey Jr. Some people don't look too good all shredded up.

(Since this was initially posted on Christmas Day, the holiday weekend dominated the record books as the highest-grossing ever.)

Any apprehensions about Avatar were wrong. Apparently, it’s insanely good and killing at the box office. Anyway, in about seven hours you may have had enough time cooped with the family. A popular Christmas full-bellied evening escape is always the movie theater. The Springvegas favorite (most buzz) this weekend is Sherlock Holmes. It’s got the makings of a smash. I think Robert Downey Jr. is a great fit for the detective. My sleeper (should watch) is Where The Wild Things Are at the Palace. Like Zombieland from a week ago – which will play at least one more week – it might not be at the second-run theater much longer, so watch it soon.

Your weekend lock (must watch) is It’s Complicated.Yes, this sounds like a chick flick, but I’m not convinced that SNL alums Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin won’t throw in some laughs, especially with the “R” rating. And, of course, there’s always the AHHH moment at the end, which might help set the holiday mood.

It’s no surprise that Old Dogs is already losing screens at most theatres. It reeked of “DO NOT SPEND MONEY TO WATCH”. The role selection of Robin Williams continues to decline. I don’t mean to be critical, I just can’t let an old dog lie. Get it? Huzzah!
