TAG 5: Food on Christmas

(TAG 5 is a top five list compiled by secret ballot, submitted by the four horsemen of TAG. An extremely complicated equation is used to calculate the polls. Mostly they are related to SGF, sometimes they are not. A new TAG 5 is released every Monday.)

Christmas Ham TAG 5: Food on Christmas

Often serving as the feast's centerpiece, the ham is TAG's favorite part.

Merry December 25th! On the final day of our Top 5 Lists Christmas Week Bonanza we take a peak at the best parts of one of the biggest meals of the year. Are you ready to gorge? I no longer aim to tackle a plate for every year I’ve lived (though my metabolism is still paying the price), but I am certainly ready to feast. Team TAG went protein heavy, with our list of favorites, topped by four carnivorous selections. There’s nothing like a big, fat, honey-glazed ham to set the mood. It appeared on the most lists and topped shrimp cocktail, a popular appetizer. Turkey gets a curtain call from Thanksgiving and a leg of lamb pulled in fourth. Wine sneaks in on the technicality that it’s part of the meal and maintains a favorable atmosphere. A variety of casseroles and desserts also received votes. Next year we’ll think about eating our veggies – Maybe.

Four votes (as of 12/25/09)
Total points, first-place votes in parenthesis

1. Honey-glazed Ham – 10 (1)
2. Shrimp Cocktail – 8 (1)
3. Turkey – 6
4. Leg of Lamb – 5 (1)

Others receiving votes: Hash Brown Casserole 4, Russell Stover‘s Chocolates 4, Pumpkin Pie 4, Apple Pie 3, Cheese Muffins 3, Brownies 2, Mashed Potatoes 2, Crab, Candy Canes, Stuffing, Green Bean Casserole.

We return to regularly scheduled programming of TAG’s Top 5 Lists on Monday with the best sushi in SGF.
